Flip-Up Loupes
Flip-up loupes use an adjustable hinge mechanism that positions the optical barrels in front of the user’s eyes.

Advantages

• Can be shared – Suitable for multiple clinicians (as long as no prescription is needed).
• Flip-up mechanism – Loupes can be moved out of the way quickly.
• Simple adjustment – Good for demonstration or temporary use.

Limitations

• Not custom-fitted – Alignment varies and requires constant adjustment.
• Heavier design – The hinge mechanism increases weight.
• Narrower field of view – Optical barrels sit farther from the eyes.
• Less stable – Movement during procedures reduces consistency.
• More fatigue – Heavier weight and readjustment contribute to discomfort.

Flip-up loupes are functional but less ergonomic and less precise than custom TTL loupes.
