Measuring PD using FrameFit – Admetec

PD measurement is a critical part of the order process.

In Admetec’s process, this is done using the FrameFit app, which is one of the company’s own innovations. It allows the representative to capture the measurements needed for production in a consistent and accurate way.

In addition to pupil distance, FrameFit also helps capture the vertical pupil position, which is equally important for proper optical alignment.

If PD was already taken earlier in the consultation, it usually does not need to be repeated, as long as the measurement is clear and accurate.

When using FrameFit, the clinician should look directly into the active camera. The app guides the person taking the photos by indicating how to adjust the camera position and when the image is properly aligned.

For the measurement to be accurate, the frame must be positioned correctly on the clinician’s face. It should sit properly on:

the nose
both ears

In some cases, especially in Asia where lower nose bridges are common, it may be better to use a lanyard with the frame to help position it correctly.

The clinician being photographed may either stand or sit, as long as the frame is positioned properly and the images are captured correctly.

The standard FrameFit photo set includes:

4 frontal photos
1 photo from each side

New sales representatives should practice using the app before working with customers. The first difficulty is usually positioning the hands and camera angle correctly in order to capture the frontal photos properly.

The FrameFit frame includes three white dots that act as indicators for the app. Because of this, the background should be clean and should not contain similar dots or distracting patterns, otherwise the app may have difficulty capturing the PD photos correctly.

Because the loupes are fully customized, inaccurate PD measurement can affect the final result significantly. For this reason, the representative should take the time to use the app carefully and confidently.
